PAST ACCOMPLISHMENTS  Report from the Board of Directors

Over the past 18 months, There have been significant changes in the overall administration of the Gimli Harbour Authority.

The purpose of these changes has been to adapt to the continued growth of the Gimli Harbour. These changes include:

  1. The GHA has rented the upstairs office from the New Iceland Heritage Museum. This area now provides an area for the Board of Directors to meet on an as needed basis, and provide workspace for the new administrative position within the Harbour Offices.

  1. As of May 2008, GD Accounting has taken over the general accounting and payroll duties of the GHA.

  1. One of the major policy changes for the GHA has been the change in how all fees within the Harbour are collected. For the 2007 & 2008 boating season, all fees have been collected directly by the Harbour Master’s office. This includes all of the boating fees from the Gimli Yacht Club. In addition, the GHA has given the Gimli Yacht Club a 5% rebate on all fees collected from the Center Basin of the Gimli Harbour. This rebate is an incentive to the Gimli Yacht Club to maintain a maximum capacity in this area.

The Gimli Harbour Authority has also undertaken a number of regular maintenance repairs within the harbour. The major repairs include:

  1. The overhaul and construction of the Fisherman’s Wharf. This included sheet pile installation along the outer edge of the Fisherman’s wharf in 2006. Six additional finger docks were installed on A dock, and 10 finger docks were added to B Dock. Piles were installed in order to accommodate these additional finger docks. Electrical outlets were also installed to accommodate larger fishing vessels/pleasure boats.

  1. The addition of 24 extra 15 amp outlets on the docks within the Gimli Yacht Club area. The addition of power has been well received, and the overall number of paid serviced slips within that area has dramatically increased, thus increasing overall revenues for the Harbour Authority.

  1. Eight new transition plates were installed on the South Dock. Twin A Ventures reinforced the principal docks and finger docks on the South Dock in 2007. This was undertaken as a result of the June 2007 windstorm in which finger docks were completely ripped from the principal portion of the South Dock.

  1. Replaced the remaining tires on all finger docks with tubs as per the requirements set out by Small Craft Harbours.

  1. C Dock was moved from the Inner Harbour to a new area just north of the South Dock – “The Hamptons”. A new electrical panel was installed in the South parking lot and new electrical was routed to C Dock.

  1. The existing boat launch was replaced, the fuel storage facilities were upgraded with new valves and pump regulators, and additional electrical outlets were installed in the main parking lot to accommodate commercial fisherman storing their vessels here for the winter.

  1. In 2008, Twin A Ventures was also contracted to remove all rotten timbers from a number of docks, and to remove and replace all finger dock hardware.
